The New York Women’s Foundation, one of the founding partners of Prosperity Together, recently announced a significant funding commitment to support women and girls in New York City. Ana Oliviera, President and CEO of the New York Women’s Foundation, announced, “The New York City Council will invest $10 million in the Young Women’s Initiative and that philanthropic community–a group of foundations led by The New York Women’s Foundation and NoVo Foundation–will match it making for an unprecedented investment of $20 million in girls and young women in New York City.”
The press release from the NYWF further explains that “the initial $10 million commitment will consist of philanthropic funds that are targeted specifically for efforts to improve the lives of girls and young women of color; are newly committed or newly targeted to these communities; and are aligned with the priorities of the Philanthropic Table for Women and Girls of Color.
“The New York City Council’s $10 million dollar commitment will be invested in the Young Women’s Initiative (YWI), created by Speaker Mark-Viverito as the nation’s first-ever effort solely dedicated to supporting young women. YWI will propose programming, policy changes, data collection, and long-term research geared towards closing the gaps in outcomes experienced by girls, young women and trans youth of color in New York City.”
IWF applauds the remarkable efforts of the NYWF and the City of New York in working toward our shared mission of improving the lives of Iowa’s women and girls.
