Originally from Sioux Center, Iowa, Maxine received her BA from Buena Vista University and her MS in Educational Administration from Drake University. She taught in Kansas, Minnesota and Iowa, where she was named area teacher of the year before becoming an elementary/middle school principal for 18 years.

Maxine wrote a piece on pay equity for the “She Matters” report as part of the Iowa Women’s Leadership Coalition, and presented her story of pay inequity at the New Orleans AAUW Convention.

She has served in a multitude of ways, including as president of the Iowa Reading Association and of AAUW IA. Maxine is the first female to serve on the county airport commission and is currently active with Raising Healthy Women and Girls Task Force, and even traveled to Chile to visit the Domestic Violence Center for women.
