Mary Lea was introduced to IWF by Geraldine Felton. She was impressed by the Foundation’s mission, work, and opportunities for women and has since served as a past President and Vice President of the Board.
She grew up in Des Moines and attended Northwestern University, earning her BA in English Literature. She taught Language Arts for three years before becoming the Patient Relations Director for Iowa Methodist Hospital. Today, Mary Lea has lived in Iowa City for over 55 years and owned Artists Concepts, a gallery specializing in art for hospitals and other institutions.
Women’s leadership and education is important to Mary Lea, and she continues to help shatter barriers in her retirement. Her service includes commitment to P.E.O Chapter KQ, the Kappa Alpha Theta alumnae club, Iowa City Raphael Art Study Club, and more! She also gives back by volunteering at the community kitchen.
