MICAH House will continue our efforts to address upstream barriers to stability by embarking upon the Building Beyond Shelter capital campaign. The Florence M. Lakin Child Development Center at MH will offer affordable, quality child care for up to 70 youth ages six weeks to six years in a trauma-sensitive and service-rich environment. Most of the children served would be those staying at or transitioning from MH, with an estimated 100 youth served in its first year (2024). The Child Development Center will allow staff to identify, assess, and support these children and their families with developmental and social-emotional assessments and referrals. This service will enable shelter clients to feel confident that their children are being well-cared-for while they work to regain stability by gaining or maintaining employment. The remaining spaces will be for community members in need of care.
