RUN LIKE A MOTHER in Support of Iowa’s Women & Girls

Run Like A Mother is an annual 4-mile run/walk hosted by the Cedar Valley Chicks for Change and benefiting the Iowa Women’s Foundation. Traditionally, 400+ runners/walkers meet in Cedar Falls for the race, but for the 15th anniversary, Chicks for Change is shaking things up and making it easier for women all across the state to Run Like A Mother in support of IWF. This year, runners and walkers will race “in the cloud” by participating in a virtual run.

Although there won’t be an official timed run/walk at Island Park this year, you can still participate! Run or walk on your own or with a group of friends and help support women and girls in the state of Iowa.

Register for the Virtual Run

Here’s how it works:

  1. Register for the Virtual Run.
  2. Use social media to announce that Run Like A Mother—traditionally a Cedar Valley event—will be going statewide as a virtual run! All money raised goes to the Iowa Women Foundation, which gives out grants to support women and girls in Iowa.
  3. Get at least two friends or family members to join you.
  4. Mark your calendar for May 12, 2018 (or set an alternate date in May/June for you and your friends/family to run/walk 4 miles).

Take a picture of your Virtual Run/Walk and post it on your social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and on IWF’s Facebook page to encourage others to run/walk for IWF on May 12, 2018 (or an alternate date of your choice). Be sure to tag IWF (@IowaWomensFoundation) in your post!

Every step you take increases the economic self-sufficiency of Iowa’s women and girls!

Live in the Cedar Valley and Still Want to Run/Walk with Your Community?

Some participants who register for this year’s Virtual Run/Walk will run or walk at Island Park in Cedar Falls as usual on May 12 at 8:30 am. Join up and run for fun without timing, awards or treats. Feel free to show up if your schedule permits.
