A special thank you to 2018 IWF Grant Partner Dress for Success Des Moines for writing this guest blog and telling us more about their fantastic organization.

Focus on the Outcome, Not the Obstacle, Keep Moving Forward.

by Jody White, Executive Director, Founding Partner Dress for Success Des Moines

Dress for Success Des Moines believes that women deserve to thrive. We also understand that in order to thrive, women must first gain the knowledge and skills that enable them to reach their full potential. The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.

Through our Suits to Success program, 50 local agencies refer job-ready women seeking skills and attire for interviews and employment. In addition to professional attire, we prepare women for their upcoming job interviews by providing resume reviews, mock interviews, PREP and the poise and confidence that translates into a successful job interview. Once hired, we offer women mentoring support through the Professional Women’s Group so they can make the most of their new opportunities and grow a successful career.

Our Professional Women’s Group is growing and expanding. The theme for 2018 is: Focus on the Outcome, Not the Obstacle, Keep Moving Forward.

Through the support and grant from the Iowa Women’s Foundation, we have been able to purchase office supplies and equipment to support the growth of this program. PWG inspires women to grow and develop personally and professionally. PWG provides a forum that encourages networking and fosters a safe environment where women can share real-life career challenges and successes, while acquiring resources and tools helpful in developing their professional skill set. PWG is needed to assist women with their transition into work. It is often times stated, “It is easier to get a job than to keep one.” PWG provides networking opportunities and support to let women know that they are not alone, helping women thrive as they navigate the new opportunities and challenges that lie before them.

The key objective and goal is employee retention. By providing women in greater Des Moines with the skills and resources to obtain and retain employment, we help them become an economically stable, contributing member of the community able to thrive in work and in life.
