An Iowa Women’s Foundation Spotlight on Women’s Leadership
One of the most respected and admired coaches in collegiate basketball, Lisa Bluder is in her 12th season as head women’s basketball coach at the University of Iowa and her 28th year overall.
Under her direction, the Hawkeyes have advanced to 10 postseason appearances including NCAA Tournament berths in each of the last four seasons. During her tenure at Iowa, four former players have gone on to become coaches, a remarkable legacy considering in 1972, more than 90% of women’s teams had a female coach, and today less than 43% are coached by women.
Bluder said of her players, "I care about them in all aspects of their lives. I want to help them succeed as athletes, but especially as people. “
