Linda Neuman

Linda Neuman retired from the Iowa Supreme Court in 2003 after serving more than twenty years as a trial and appellate judge in Iowa. In retirement she has divided her time between teaching at the University of Iowa College of Law and a private practice centered on mediation, arbitration and consultation on appeals and legal ethics. She has taught courses in professional responsibility and appellate court practice at the law school and, currently, she serves as the faculty liason and instructor for students doing externships in Iowa’s federal courts.
Linda holds BA and JD degrees from the University of Colorado and a Masters of Law degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. She trained as a mediator at CDR Associates in Boulder, Colorado, with subsequent courses at the Strauss Institute for Dispute Resolution at Pepperdine University Law School and the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center.
Linda is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation, immediate past president of the American Academy of ADR Attorneys, and past president of the John F. Dillon American Inn of Court. She is one of three Iowa commissioners appointed by the Governor to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws. While in the judiciary, she chaired the Appellate Judges Conference of the American Bar Association, served on the executive committee of the ABA Judicial Division, was a member of the ABA/JAD Committee on Standards of Judicial Administration, and a director of the National Association of Women Judges.
Linda serves on a number of non-profit and corporate boards of directors. In March 2009 she received the Athena Business Women’s Award for her service to the Quad-City community. She is a volunteer reader for the blind on the local public radio station, WVIK. She’s been active in the Episcopal Church in Iowa, chairing its constitution and canons committee and serving, pro bono, as counsel to the bishop. In her spare time, Linda enjoys gardening, hiking, visiting children and grandchildren, and traveling the world with her husband and law school classmate, Henry Neuman.
Linda will provide the keynote address at the Iowa Women's Foundation 2009 Annual Awards Luncheon on October 16, 2009 at the Coralville Marriott Hotel and Convention Center.
