Peggy Doerge, Past President
MidWestOne Bank
Vice President
Since 1998, the Iowa Women’s Foundation has had a champion supporter in Peggy Doerge. “I was intrigued by the group’s tag line – ‘Invest in the dreams of girls and the power of women.’ I have a daughter who was in sixth grade about that time, so that really resonated with me,” Peggy recalls. Initially, she served as a presenter in the group’s financial literacy series "Women and Money" and joined the board of directors in 2000.
As the vice president of MidWestOne Bank in Iowa City, investing in Iowa’s human capital is of great importance and an issue she is well versed in.
“It is IWF's focus on supporting programs that promote social change through services which first inspired me to become involved with this wonderful organization combined with its grants programs which have impacted the lives of women and girls in two thirds of Iowa counties. The IWF recognizes the importance of reaching out to the more remote and under-served areas in our state. Attitudes toward women have changed a lot in the last 30 years, but there is still much to do. In many ways the fact there have been some high profile, successful women to serve as examples distracts us from the reality of the serious inequities which persist. The fact that Iowa is one of only two states in the US not to have elected a woman as governor or as a member of the US House of Representatives or Senate is something that needs to change.”
